WHOKA is about us—our family who left the big city during COVID in search of a different way of life. We wanted to show our kids that there’s another path—one where you have the freedom to explore yourself and your passions. A life where we grow our own food, generate our own power, and learn to be truly self-sufficient.
There’s something incredible about being so close to your food—knowing exactly where it comes from, how it’s grown, and that it’s free from unnecessary chemicals. The flavors are richer, the nutrients are higher, and there’s a deep satisfaction in harvesting something you’ve nurtured from seed to plate.
But self-sufficiency isn’t just about personal benefits. If more people embraced this lifestyle, fewer trucks would be needed to haul food across the country, reducing pollution and easing the strain on our planet. By growing our own food and relying less on large supply chains, we lessen our environmental impact while gaining independence.
And then there’s the health aspect. Working with the land keeps us active, breathing fresh air, and moving our bodies in a natural way. We’re more in tune with the seasons, the rhythms of nature, and what our bodies truly need to thrive. It’s a lifestyle that nourishes not just our plates, but our minds and souls as well.
This journey isn’t about going back in time—it’s about moving forward with intention, making choices that benefit our family, our community, and the world around us.
Move to Seattle
A work offer from Seattle was accepted.
Work
Kim worked in the medical industry, Tony worked with Amazon as an software engineer.
Left USA
We decided to show our kids the self sufficient lifestyle.

Looked for land
Our experience in Seattle made us fall in love with the PNW but we wanted to return to Canada. We travelled B.C in our RV with the kids for almost a year looking for the right land to settle on.
Found Land
Our criteria was 200+ acres of land with lake waterfront. Somewhere remote and away from major cities.
